Main Features

Orb is simple and fast to use. The Orb application is free to download and install, and there are no fees for MyCasting. You only need a home computer to get setup, and can use any web-enabled media player with streaming capabilities, portable or otherwise, to remotely play the media you desire.

Once the Orb software is installed on your "always-on" home PC, your computer acts like your personal broadcasting system. You now have the ability to stream content through any internet-connected device like a mobile phone, PDA, laptop or any other computer.

No additional hardware or software is necessary to be installed on any of the web-enabled devices you want to use. With Orb, you can start MyCasting your photos, music, videos, live* or recorded TV, documents and more right now. *Please note, to access live TV you will need to purchase and install a TV tuner card in your home PC. Orb makes this easy to do by providing instructions and recommendations.

To start MyCasting, enter http://mycast.orb.com into your web browser, and login on your personal broadcasting station. Orb creates a secure media portal to your home PC. There are no downloads, just unencumbered streaming of digital content. The Orb application automatically checks the bandwidth, screen size and resolution of your viewing device and optimizes the digital content for your device and connection speed. You don't have to worry about how it works - you can just play and enjoy!

MyCasting through Orb maximizes the potential of both the Internet and the devices we use everyday to unlock the digital media on your home computer in a way never before possible.

If you have a mobile phone, PDA or laptop with an Internet connection and a suitable media player, you can start MyCasting today. Check Orb's System Requirements to see what you need to start MyCasting.

Installation

this is the easy bit just go to http://corp.orb.com/download_orb and get the latest version then

  • locate the setup file you downloaded and make sure it has a ‘.exe’ suffix. On some systems, due to certain security software/practices one will find the file with no suffix, in such a case please rename it so that the ‘.exe’ extension is restored.
  • Run the setup file and go through the installation wizard.

Network Configuration

It's a good idea to write down your original network and proxy settings before making any changes. Incorrect settings can cause Orb to either malfunction or not function at all, and can even prevent your computer from accessing the Internet.

Firewall

If you are attempting to connect to Orb from behind a firewall, the first time Orb is launched you may receive one or more Security Alerts notifying you that an Orb application is attempting to access the Internet. For Orb to run properly on your system, you must select to "Unblock".

Proxy Server on a LAN
If you install Orb on a computer that is part of a Local Area Network (LAN), and your LAN accesses the Internet via a Proxy Server, you may experience connection issues in which Orb applications are prevented from connecting to the Internet and, therefore, to our servers. Proxy information is unique to your network and can only be obtained from your network administrator.

Orb Streaming Ports

When you stream media in Orb, depending on your system configuration, Orb will either use UpnP and stream directly from your Orb PC to your Orb client device, bypassing Orb stream servers, or your streams will be sent via Orb stream servers. The following lists the ports you will need open in most cases:

  • For Windows media streams (.ASX), you need to be able to connect to TCP port 80. This is the standard HTTP port, no special configuration should be needed.
  • For Real media streams (.RAM) and 3GP streams (.SDP), you need to have incoming TCP port 554 and UDP ports 13398 to 13401 open.
  • If you install Orb behind a restrictive corporate firewall, you need to ensure that outgoing TCP ports 82, 85 and 86 are open on your PC to connect to Orb servers.

Getting Started

  1. If you are ...
    • a new user, click create an account, then:
      • create your Orb login and password and enter this information where required
      • enter your email address. Note that it is important that you enter a valid email address for 2 reasons:
        • valid email is required to recover a lost login or recreate a forgotten password; the first time you share media in Orb, you will be required to verify this email address.
      • Click Next
    • an existing user, enter your current Orb login and password, then click Next
  2. Click Next if you will be using all Orb features or, deselect the media types you do not wish to remotely access via Orb then click Next. You will then be walked through the TV configuration.
Note: If you do not select TV, your configuration is done:

once everything is set up and running you can begin adding media by right clicking the icon in the taskbar choosing configuration click the media tab and add any folders you want.

xbox 360

quick start

make sure your 360 is connected to your router or direct to your PC and you have the latest system update and that tversity is running.

go to the media blade and select music, pictures, or video now press X to change source now if everythings working as it should, you will see Orb now select that and browse to what you want to watch/listen to.

PlayStation 3

i dont reccomend this for ps3 but it does work if you are on a home network mainly because it still uses web traffic

quick start

Make sure your PS3 is on and updated to atleast 1.80 firmware and you also should be on a home network or router and Orb is running

on ps3 first of all go to settings on the cross bar menu and go down to Newtwork Settings and click it and make sure Media Server Connection is Enabled then go to music, photos or videos and choose search for media servers after 1 min or so it should come up with found media servers and the ammount so press circle and in the and you will see Orb now select that and browse to what you want to watch/listen to.

although this does show up in video it just says to open the web browser and go to mycast.orb.com and enter your Orb login and password thats the main reason i never use Orb on ps3

Nokia N95

on n95 i prefer orb

now in your menu find the home media button it will probably be under tools somewhere i moved my icon to the main menu screen for easy access click the icon and you should see a browse home button click that and you will see windows media player now select that and browse to what you want to watch/listen to.

2. open your phones web browser go to mycast.orb.com and enter your Orb login and password

Nintendo Wii

not much to say on this i prefer orb than tverstiy as it has a nicer interface for my taste its a shame the wii cant connect to media servers properly like ps3/xbox but then its not trying to be a multmedia device

  • ma sure you have downloaded the
free Opera browser for your Wii so that you can access your Internet channel from your Wii remote and start using Orb.
  • From your Wii Opera Browser, go to mycast.orb.com and enter your Orb login and password.
