Installation

this is the easy bit just go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx and get the latest version then

  • locate the setup file you downloaded and make sure it has a ‘.exe’ suffix. On some systems, due to certain security software/practices one will find the file with no suffix, in such a case please rename it so that the ‘.exe’ extension is restored.
  • Run the setup file and go through the installation wizard.

Getting Started

1. open Windows Media Player 11 then Goto Tools then under library tab and click configure sharing
2.Go to media sharing box and make sure its ticked
3.if using ps3 Make sure your PS3 is on and updated to atleast 1.80 firmware and you also should be on a home network or router

if you want to add folders

1. open Windows Media Player 11 then Goto Tools then under library tab and click monitor folders

2. click add and browse to whatever folders you want

then goto

Start / Run  type: services.msc then Enter
find and Check these 3 services (A MUST if you want to detect your device on the PS3).
SSDP Discovery Service    Make it Automatic (right click properties to change it).
Universal Plug and Play Device Host
Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
All have to be on or on Auto.

xbox 360

quick start

make sure your 360 is connected to your router or direct to your PC and you have the latest system update and that tversity is running.

go to the media blade and select music, pictures, or video now press X to change source now if everythings working as it should, you will see windows media player now select that and browse to what you want to watch/listen to.

wmp 11 works pretty much flawless with xbox what them both being microsoft i dont think that will be a shock to anyone

PlayStation 3

wmp 11 with ps3 does seem to be very hit or miss if/when you get it working it is great

but getting it to work can be problematic sadly

quick start

Make sure your PS3 is on and updated to atleast 1.80 firmware and you also should be on a home network or router and windows media player is running

Now on the PS3 - Under Video, Photos or Music, select "Scan for media server"
Go back to the PC, and you should see a pop up showing an unknown device trying to connect.
Allow the device, and everything should work.

if things dont work make sure all this is correct

Start / Run  type: services.msc then Enter
find and Check these 3 services (A MUST if you want to detect your device on the PS3).
SSDP Discovery Service    Make it Automatic (right click properties to change it).
Universal Plug and Play Device Host
Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
All have to be on or on Auto.

sometimes turning everything off pc/router/pc then rebooting them in the order of router/pc/ps3 can help

if you cant get this to work there is a more comprehensive guide at the US ps3 forums here

Nokia N95

on n95 i prefer orb but wmp 11 is good

quick start

make sure your phone can connect to your router via wifi

now in your menu find the home media button it will probably be under tools somewhere i moved my icon to the main menu screen for easy access click the icon and you should see a browse home button click that and you will see windows media player now select that and browse to what you want to watch/listen to.
